In his dance solo Second Skin – Turn The Beat Around, the Austrian dancer and choreographer Michael Turinsky plays with the concept of the visible and invisible, the affect and the representation, work and capital, boredom and excitement and displays a format of a musical (hip hop) video on its different surfaces. With the slowness, repetitions and pauses it emphasizes the specific temporality of the culture of handicap, in which negativity meets pleasure. In his solo, the level of (physical) social norm turns, through the perspective of the culture of handicap, into its own negative; the choreographer and dancer thus makes a series topical social questions visible. Turinsky researches tensions created by the development of the specific form emanating the specific physicality, its contextualisation, changeability and perceptual somersaults that are organised around it.
The project unfolds via the cooperation with the relationship between surface and depth, between the envelope and the enveloping of physical awareness and desire. Second Skin – Turn the beat around explores the relation between abstract and concrete representation of hip-hop culture.
