Rina Barbarić, about to graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, course graphic design, will be presenting her illustrations on wood as the final representative in the Young Artist Series 2.0. Despite having enrolled in the course of graphic design, she has the greatest affinity towards illustration, which has been part of her life since an early age. She was invited to help create the Bi-ko-fe bar in Ljubljana and illustrated one of its wooden surfaces, and in the same venue, her first solo exhibition Spit it out was held in 2013. In years 2013–14 she cooperated actively with KCŠ (Šiška Creative Zone), where she had her studio, while also participating in staging events at the location. One of the events was 8 March (2014), with a day-long programme of creative workshops, film screenings and exhibitions dedicated to the women’s day. Her latest project has been a collaboration with Yougofirst collective, within which she contributed the title credits and promo material for their annual film.
In her creativity, she aims at experimenting with techniques and her own expression in art, which is why she uses various media in visual art. Her exhibition in Kiosk, Kino Šiška will be presenting her latest works, focusing for the first time on illustration and painting on wood. She has tried to harmonize the natural appearance of wood with the play of abstraction and figuration.
