In Vegova ulica Street Gallery, a younger generation illustrator Matija Medved will be presenting his city-related visual imaginarium to the passers-by within the open-air exhibition series By the Way, a collaboration between the company TAM-TAM and Kino Šiška.
Matija Medved is an illustrator, finishing his postgraduate studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. He is focused on drawing, painting, illustration and graphic design. He finds inspiration in everyday experiences, amusing coincidences and nature, in which he likes to wander. He was a regular contributor to the socially critical newspaper Tribuna, for which he illustrated the extensive modern fairy-tale “Zmaji v banji” (“Dragons in the Bathtub”) in 2013. It received the Hinko Smrekar Award at the 11th Biennial of Slovene Book Illustration. Recently he illustrated the posthumous release of poetry by Tone Pavček, “Domu in rodu”, and provided the artwork for the lobby of the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre. His work has been displayed at several group exhibitions, such as “Oko za oko” at the National Gallery, Zgraf 2012 and the 12 HUB Gallery in Belgrade, the VI. Independent Biennial in 2013, the 11th Biennial of Slovene Book Illustration in 2014 and ALUO LLX in the Jakopič Gallery in 2015, as well as at independent exhibitions “Zmaji v banji” at Kino Šiška (together with the Tribuna newspaper) and via the LIMITED EDIT111ONS 2014 platform. He lives and work in Ljubljana.
