Cult electronic alter-rock band to perform solo in Ljubljana for the first time after releasing their comeback album and re-forming the concert line-up!

Last year, the band that helped define the EBM (Electronic Body Music) genre in the 1980s, Borghesia, released a new album, And Man Created God, and refreshed their line-up around the two founding members, Dario Seraval and Aldo Ivančič. The refreshed Borghesia will present materials from their new album as well as a selection from their cult 1980’s repertoire.

Special attention also goes to the remarkable guests of the evening. Trobecove krušne Peći is another cult veteran band from Zagreb: an avant-garde post-punk ensemble that was considered the best kept secret of the Zagreb underground between late 1980s and early 1990s. This will be their first gig in Ljubljana following their recent re-activation.

Borghesia is a cult electronic alter-rock band that was formed in Ljubljana back in 1982, having evolved from the alternative theatre collective FV-112/15. Its typical aesthetics is drawing from the images of the forbidden, taboo and repressed. In the 1980s, it was them and Laibach music collective who were internationally the most prominent representatives of Slovenian alternative music scene, as well as pioneers of the evolving underground goth electronic scene. Often labelled as EMB (Electronic Body Music) pioneers, Borghesia released four LP’s on one of Europe’s major independent labels – Play It Again Sam (PIAS) and played numerous concerts across Europe.

Having been at a standstill for a very long period of time, from mid 1990s to 2009, founding members Aldo Ivančič and Dario Seraval got back to making music together. In June 2014, the new record And Man Created God was released on American label Metropolis Records, which was followed by a return to the stages with a complete line-up and new sound, closer to rock, but featuring many blends and influences (folk, electro, industrial, etc.). The new album is a convincing and provocative work of art – its underlying theme revolving around the realisation that old, corrupt and bribable systems have been replaced by new ones, which are more or less equally bad. Says Borghesia:

In the meantime, a bad system has been replaced with a worse one. From the dawn of mankind, the rich have been stealing from the poor. But today, the scope has become absurd: the capital and money fuelling money are the new God. Money, the present-day golden calf. Money. We have all turned out to be obedient consumers. Man should be fighting against the system that fails to work in people’s favour. This is why the album has been named “Man Created God”.

Trobecove krušne peći – Croatian avant-garde post punk band from Zagreb, named after the most notorious serial killer from Yugoslavia of the time. The band was active between 1981 and 1987. Music critics have classified it as alternative rock, post-punk/art rock, noise and no wave.

Trobecove Krušne Peći have been tied to Zagreb personally as well as professionally. For a number of years they have been analysing evil and working against it through art, being aware that the collective and individual mind have passed over to the state of spiritual negativism. In this context, all levers of social power are used to dominate and enslave people.

The main period in TKP’s activity was between 1983 when they performed at the Zagreb biennial, and 1987. During this time the band recorded album materials in Borut Činč’ studio, however, together with other preserved recordings they were only released in 2013. Then, 37 representatives of the Croatian alternative scene took an initiative to collect the materials and release a compilation set ‘S mukom žvaču trubadurov vrat’ containing a 180 g vinyl, two CDs with all publically available demo and concert recordings made between 1981 and 1987, and a DVD featuring concert recordings, their songs, live footage, demo recordings and music videos.

They have been making and performing music since.

Band members:
vocals Darko Begić – Bega
bass Mario Barišin – Bara
guitar Ivan Vinski
drums Gordan Dorvak
sax Damir Prica Kafka – Capri
