To close off the summer, young artist Helena Tahir will exhibit at the Street Gallery on Vegova Street, as part of the series of exhibitions in public space currently organised by TAM-TAM and Kino Šiška.
The artist addresses passing viewers with a triptych from her latest series of black-and-white graphics, entitled Faces, in which she strives, according to her own words, to take advantage of the quality of traditional drawings and enhance it with modern means of artistic production: “The displayed triptych is the result of improvising freehand drawing with a pencil, adding textures obtained via the frottage technique and layering individual parts by transferring drawings with tape. In the final phase, I digitalised the drawings and assembled the composition, characterised primarily by repeating patterns, motif fragmentation, mirroring, geometry and the poetry of the artistic process.” On a contextual level, she is interested in “more or less identifiable images in a chaotic world, recognised by the viewer via subjective interpretation, originating in their subconscious.”
Helena Tahir (1992) recently came back from Portugal after finishing her last year of Bachelor’s studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Porto. In September 2015, she graduated with honours from the Department of Painting and Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She has been featured in numerous exhibitions and art magazines, such as Art Reveal Magazine, ArticulAction and photography magazine The Fix. She currently lives and works in Jesenice and Ljubljana. As of the end of May, she was the first artist to work in the DobraVaga Open Studio, where she will also exhibit in September as part of the Artist per Month series.
