A SELECTION OF FILMS BY BALKAN DOCUMENTARY DISTRIBUTION NETWORK – BDDN
BDDN is the result of a creative partnership between Balkan documentary film festivals, distributors and productions: MakeDox (Macedonia), Slobodna Zona (Serbia), Restart label (Croatia), Dokufest (Kosovo), Underhill fest (Montenegro), Demiurg and Petra Pan Film (Slovenia), Delta video (Serbia). In December, documentary film The Shelter will be screened simultaneously in Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade, Podgorica, Skopje and Prizren. The screening will be followed by an online discussion about the film, hosted in each city by an expert who will be integrating all six locations.
A winter spent in the heart of an emergency shelter for homeless people in Lausanne. At the entrance to this hidden bunker there unfolds every night the same dramatic ritual, leading to occasionally violent confrontations. The watchmen have the difficult task of “sorting the poor”: women and children first, men later if there is room. Even if the shelter can hold 100 people, only 50 “chosen ones” will be allowed inside to receive a hot meal and a bed. The others know that the night will be a long one.
