Are there any hackers in Slovenia? Who are they, why do they interfere with others’ computers and roam the Internet freely? What is their motivation, and is it any different than it was, say, twenty years ago?
In autumn 2015, SI-CERT, the Slovenian Computer Emergency Response Team celebrates the 20th anniversary of its operations. Based on their archive materials, a documentary film was made as a co-production of Sever & Sever and RTV Slovenia, presenting the emergence and evolution of Slovenian hacker community in four chapters. Insight into a section of the complex phenomenon of hacking and the hacker community is based on footage documenting real events and testimonials by detectives, webmasters of affected networks and computers, as well as researchers and operators at SI-CERT response centre. Hackers have also spoken, no beating about the bush.
Since 1995, SI-CERT has been operating within the public institute Arnes Academic and Research Network of Slovenia. Arnes was the pioneer of introducing the Internet in Slovenia. Apart from supplying infrastructure to universities, institutes and other research, educational and cultural institutions, they provide some important services at the national level: administration of exchange points for the traffic among SIX members, domain registration and maintenance of the distributed DNS infrastructure for the operation of .si domains, SI-CERT Slovenian Computer Emergency Response Team, and national coordination of the distributed super-computer system SLING.
Organised by: ARNES SI-CERT and Kino Šiška.
