Pick up the phone – Operators are on the line! The new project by Dan Boeckner (vocals and guitar for Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs, Divine Fits), Sam Brown (drummer for New Bomb Turks, Divine Fits) and electronic sorceress Devojka will visit Kino Šiška during its first European tour accompanying the release of its debut Blue Wave.
Operators grabbed the attention of the music scene immediately, their first EP (2014), with coiled and aggressively melodic synthpop rhythms, yielding warm-up duties for Future Islands and New Pornographers. With their debut album Blue Wave in hand (lead single Cold Light was released in the end of January), Operators launched a tour across the US and Europe, with Dan Boeckner also picking up the guitar, much to the delight of all Wolf Parade fans.
“While Blue Wave showcases enough synth-centric production to meet all of the requirements to recreate a genre once widely referred to as dream pop, the songs on this album teem with such agitation that it could be the photo negative of that style: nightmare pop.” – Pitchfork
Karmakoma boasts a broad repertoire, from noisy guitar riffs to quieter dub rhythms, soaked in a purple haze, wherein electronic instruments create the illusion of a much more numerous group, at moments recalling 80s new wave, yet at the same time featuring the mark of modernity.
The debut album Imagination & Mechanical Metamorphoses (ZARŠ, 2014) is the logical result of an astonishing explosion of creativity and organised experimentation. This is the album that morphed Gregor Samsa into a bionic insect. When crafting its sonic frescoes, Karmakoma transforms from complete stillness into nearly intolerable chaos, from the conscious into the unconscious, from rigid wakefulness into dreams. In its exploration, the band relates to bodies, functions, physiological processes, experiences and pleasures in order to link them in accordance with the growing complexity, proportional to the development of modern technologies that target life.
Members: Enej Mavsar (vocals, guitar, programming), Benjamin Kovač (drums), Jošt Drašler (bass, synthesizer), Janžej Marinč (keyboards, samples, synthesizer).
