Mario Biondi – a global star, the Italian Barry White, presenting for the first time his deep, charming voice to the Slovenian audience
A warm deep sensual voice, yet clear and confident. Born Mario Ranno, he has cultivated his passion for music from a tender age, in the company of his father, Italian singer Stefano Biondi. Later he assumed his father’s stage name Biondi in memory of him.
He began singing in church choirs in his native Catania, Sicily, and later became a session singer. His love for soul soon resulted in collaborations with renowned musicians, such as Ray Charles. The turning point of his career came with the Japanese release of his single This Is What You Are, picked up and re-launched by top BBC1 DJ Norman Jay, who fell in love with the song featuring it and spreading it to the rest of Europe.
In 2006 he released his first album Handful of Soul, which gained four platinum records in just a few months. This was followed immediately by his appearance at the legendary Sanremo festival and a series of collaborations with renowned musicians, such as Amalia Grè, Karima Ammar, Duke Orchestra, Renato Zero and others.
With various international backup bands, Biondi has so far recorded another 5 albums that became global success stories: I love You More LIVE (2007) with Duke orchestra, If (2010), Yes You LIVE (2010), Due (2011) and the award-winning Sun (2013), which was released in Europe, Japan and the USA. He also recorded two Christmas albums and several singles, all of them global hits as well. His current hit single is Love is a temple.
