Regional archiving of contemporary dance practices and scenes has been
explored in the frame of Nomad Dance Institute (Nomad Dance Academy,
Balkan Dance Network) since 2013. We have thus traced the development of
the first case studies of choreographic practices and cultures in the contexts
of Socialist Yugoslavia (Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia) and Bulgaria
between the 1970s and the 1990s. Our archiving cases could be considered
pioneering works in the historicization of the period which itself coincides
with the beginning of alternative practices in the region, and an erosion of
socialist economies conditioned by the international financial downfall and
energetic crisis of the 1970s, as well as with a gradual aesthetic diversification
of choreographic and performative practices in the region.
Research results will be presented by: Igor Koruga, Iva Nerina Sibila, Biljana
