LAJKÓ FÉLIX & BAND

Devilish Hungarian violinist and zither player Félix Lajkó last wowed us in 2015 with his quartet and is now coming to Šiška for the third time with his new five-piece band of experienced musicians and improvisers. Only the award-winning “Paganini of Vojvodina” knows what’s in store for us this time, but a genre-defying storm of impulsiveness, virtuosic talent and incredible feeling for blending, performing and bestowing various music currents is a given.

With his music, the Bačka-Topola-born virtuoso Félix Lajkó has been linking his homelands, Serbia and Hungary, since his youth. He utilises his instrument, whether the violin or the zither, as an intermediary between himself and the rest of the world, with his music reflecting the sensitiovity and variability of the instrument, which comes to life through the author’s exceptional improvisational and compositional skills. Throughout his 25-year career, the acclaimed musician, who counts Warren Ellis (Dirty Three, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) among his fans, has collaborated with numerous known performers, from symphonic orchestras to Romanian star violinist Alexander Balanescu and eclectic jazz drummer Jojo Mayer, with his latest success being the joint album VOŁOSI with the Polish group of the same name, which has landed at the top of international global music charts – just like many of Lajkó’s previous releases.

Lajkó will visit Šiška for the third time, but the first with his five-piece band, so we’re already looking forward to a new experience or a new side of this exceptional musician. He’ll be accompanied by József Barcza-Horváth on the double bass, Attila Sidó on the guitar, Endre Kertész on the cello, Tamás Czriják on the drums and János Mazura on the tuba, brewing up a vivid mélange of classical music, jazz, dark folk, punk rock, sentimental metal, klezmer and Roma music that has previously enchanted some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. Don’t miss out!
