The African music and dance ensemble, led by acclaimed choreographer Maša Kagao Knez, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with an unforgettable evening of African dance and music. Accompanied by guests, the group of experienced dancers and musicians will take you into the world of West African culture and its broad array of rhythms and dances. Colourful costumes, lively African rhythms, energy and the joy in the dance will bring the wealth of the African cultural tradition closer to the audience.
Everyone who bought tickets to attend the event at Kino Šiška is entitled to a refund (instructions at https://www.kinosiska.si/en/vracilo-kupnine-za-odpovedane-in-prestavljene-dogodke/).
The group was established in 2009 with the aim of maintaining and spreading African cultural heritage. In 2010, its programme debuted in front of an audience at Lent Festival in Maribor and the Baofest Festival of African Culture in Ljubljana. During its ten years of operation, the group has successfully performed at all major festivals in Slovenia. In its music and dance projects (Red Earth, Footsteps, etc.), the dancers and drummer Issiaka Sanou have been joined by excellent singers and musicians, who will join them for this spectacle as well (percussionist Blaž Korez, singer and percussionist Leticia Yebuah Tiran, singer Malala, rapper Jose, singer Daniel Nzotam, guitarist Igor Leonardi, flautist Asja Grauf and African choir Sankofa). In recent years, the group has also been accompanied by percussionist Mamourou Sanou.
Maša Kagao Knez, the group’s leader, combines West African culture and contemporary dance in her original expression. The programme will therefore encompass both traditional African rhythms and dances and the contemporary dance expression of the dance ensemble and guest dancers, as well as original music, created by various musicians over the years for her dance performances Dia Diasso Diaspora, Momentum – Avenue of Captured Moments and Concert for Mam. The guests will therefore include singer Irena Yebuah Tiran, dancers Dalanda Diallo, Urša Rupnik and Liza Šimenc, and rapper Murat. The percussion ensemble will also be joined by Blaž Celarec.
