We’re inviting you to a zine workshop organised as part of the sixth anniversary of the DobraVaga Gallery, as well as the fifth curated display of reading room zines with the common theme of heritage.
The display will include zines that relate to cultural heritage or explore its importance, how to recognize, appreciate or protect it and why this is important. The zines may depict social or very personal approaches to certain objects, customs, food, art, architecture and language. They may be concerned with understanding or questioning heritage, legacy, the past, fearing its loss, or contemplating the alternative heritage of our descendants. The exhibition will also present extremely intimate zines, whose treatment of heritage is first-person, unrepeatable and, in the spirit of looking back, somewhat anxious, painful and, above all, poetic.
In the workshop, we will sew zines from old pieces of fabric, curtains, tablecloths and other materials that were once in use. In the zines, we will be able to draw, glue, embroider and in various ways assemble products that might stay behind us longer than the usual paper zines.
The workshop is open to all and will be led by visual artist, DobraVaga gallery team member and ZINE VITRINE exhibition curator Ema Kobal.
