This year, for the first time, Tinta Comics Festival is hosting a comics artist as part of a three-week residency programme! In Ljubljana, young Latvian artist Vivianna Maria Stanislavska will create a new comic book zine for the festival, In Bloom, in which she wryly looks into the intimate world of plant coexistence. She will debut it at a solo exhibition at the DobraVaga Gallery.
The artist’s works are a mixture of black humour, “silly” everyday situations and more serious topics. She publishes comics in anthologies and magazines such as kuš! and Stripburger as well as elsewhere, and she has also illustrated several children’s books.
Vivianna Maria Stanislavska (1992) is a visual artist based in Riga, taking on various projects in illustration, design, comics and animation. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in printmaking in 2016 and a master’s in 2020. In 2016, she received the Young Growth Prize for her debut book, Noisy Classroom, which was later published in English and Estonian. Since 2020, she has been filling in a teaching position for animation and multimedia design at a vocational high school in Riga. Whenever she has free time, Vivianna observes birds and other creatures.
