Jonathan Bree, the masked pop eccentric who’s racked up millions of views and streams with viral hits and sold out his previous show at Kino Šiška, is coming back! He’ll present his brand new fifth album Pre-Code Hollywood, on which he collaborated with Nile Rodgers himself.
On his fifth album Pre-Code Hollywood, the incredibly popular and intriguingly masked New Zealander Jonathan Bree transports listeners to a complex sonic world that celebrates classic pop of a bygone era, exuding a nostalgic charm reminiscent of a John Hughes movie soundtrack. Drawing inspiration from classic artists such as Lee Hazlewood and Serge Gainsbourg, the dark disco album full of sad bangers finds Bree collaborating with the legendary Nile Rodgers. Bree’s long-time collaborator Princess Chelsea also returns.
Bree began his musical career at age 12 as the drummer in his adult cousin’s goth band. Eventually, he formed The Brunettes with partner Heather Mansfield, signed to Sub Pop, and toured relentlessly for much of the early aughts before taking a long break from releasing his own music. He returned as a solo artist, finding massive viral success with his hit track “You’re So Cool” and distinct visual and artistic style. On Pre-Code Hollywood, the latter are more striking and fully realized than ever, and we can’t wait to host him again.
