The legendary Italian alt-rockers Verdena are finally coming to Šiška! At their first performance at our venue, the so-called “Italian Nirvana” will present material from last year’s album Volevo Magia, one of the best-selling albums in Italy in 2022.
The Italian trio Verdena was founded in Bergamo by the brothers Alberto and Luca Ferrari in the mid-1990s, putting the pedal to the metal with the addition of bassist Roberta Sammarelli. With their first demo recordings and studio debut, the band established itself as Italy’s answer to Nirvana and became firmly entrenched on MTV and stages across Italy.
Today, the band is a fixture on the Italian rock scene, having released eight well-received albums so far. Their music is fuelled by the dirty grunge riffs of bands like Nirvana and Melvins, as well as the older classics that laid the foundations of guitar genres – Led Zeppelin, The Stooges, etc. With the support of a strong rhythm section, their abstract lyrical hallucinations are wrapped around a solid rock core, with the meaning of the words themselves not key to the understanding and interpretation of the compositions.
Memorable tunes and a supreme measure of rock creativity have ensured that, even almost thirty years after their formation, Verdena regularly reach the top of the sales charts, sell out tours and receive awards. After all, their 2022 album Volevo Magia was named the best Italian album by Rolling Stone and Rockol.it. We’ll be able to hear it live during Verdena’s long-awaited first visit to Šiška in April.
