In 2019, the talented German pianist and composer Martin Kohlstedt left his mark on us with a one-of-a-kind concert experience. He’s coming back in September with a completely new album, his improvisational approach guaranteeing another unforgettable night!
FOR FANS OF: Ólafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Sudan Archives …
Described as a pop star among contemporary pianists, Martin Kohlstedt is one of the outstanding composers, pianists, and producers of contemporary instrumental music and electronica. His unique modular compositions utilise improvisational and experimental principles to ensure an exceptional, unrepeatable experience, whether live or in the studio. He intuitively combines inspirations and influences from fundamentally different worlds, and has won acclaim from reviewers, listeners, and fellow musicians alike, resulting in collaborations with the likes of BADBADNOTGOOD, Peter Broderick, and Sudan Archives.
With his newest album Feld, released in March, Kohlstedt underlines the importance of the long-player in an age of singles, snippets and soundbites. Feld as a whole is a living body, a movie with an immersive, captivating story, where every piece stands out as a complete, individual scene, in itself embedded in a greater picture. Feld not only impresses with its underlying aesthetic – it sets a standard on how cutting-edge electronica production can intermingle with analogue and acoustic approaches, ranging from classical piano and ambient to field recordings and score design in an effortless way. Above all, it has us very much looking forward to another unforgettable Kohlstedt concert.
