LUCIDVOX

+ Gnoomes

Lucidvox, one of the most prominent bands of the current Russian musical avant-garde, is returning to Ljubljana, having impressed us already at our first meeting at the MENT festival. The all-female fourpiece will present their exciting, robust new album, That’s What Remained, released by the Glitterbeat label, at their debut performance at Kino Šiška.

FOR FANS OF: Shortparis, Roadburn Festival, Blue Crime …

Lucidvox, one of the most influential bands in the thriving Russian DIY scene, prove that psychedelic rock is not just the domain of bearded dudes from the West. The four Muscovite ladies dream up shamanic trips from the beauty of Russian folk music, hypnotic guitars, classical elegance and jazzy rhythms, with sobriety coming in the form of noisy riffs and punk attitude. The band performs regularly in Europe, from Pohoda and Desertfest to England and Budapest, and we first saw them live in our lands at MENT 2018.

Following up on their excellent 2020 debut We Are, Lucidvox’s new album That’s What Remained, released by Glitterbeat Records on November 17th, 2023, marks a significant evolution in the band’s sound. The quartet enriches their impassioned psych-rock with additional sonic elements like horns, keyboards, strings, and atmospheric textures. This album is a vast-sounding collection of swirling ritual missives, reflecting the band’s response to contemporary global challenges. The collaboration with other musicians, including a children’s choir, adds a powerful dimension to their music, making this album more robust than their previous release. That’s What Remained is a testament to Lucidvox’s growth and adaptability, offering a unique blend of styles that resonates with a broad spectrum of listeners.

Gnoomes, a Russian band formed in 2014, combines krautrock, shoegaze, and techno into a unique style they call “stargaze,” featuring driving motorik rhythms, pulsing electronics, and atmospheric guitars. Evolving their sound to include trippy electronics and dance beats, the band has performed all over Europe, including MENT Festival in 2020, where they received praise from outlets such as Clash and Under the Radar. The Rocket Recordings proteges (alongside the likes of Goat, Gnod, and Pigs x7) are coming back to Ljubljana with a new album, 2023’s Ax Ox, their first entirely in Russian. Boldly running through a gamut of vibrant emotion, the album chronicles the fractious relationship which the band have with their home country.

Tickets on sale online and at Eventim outlets.
