John Maus, the visionary behind a new wave of experimental pop, is finally bringing his enigmatic presence to our stage. Having transformed the cold minimalism of synth-pop with grace and absurd humour, he is one of the key artists of the past decade.
FOR FANS OF: Ariel Pink, Animal Collective, Svemirko …
With his fascinating blend of synth pop, avant-garde styles, and profound lyrical depth, John Maus is one of modern music’s most distinct figures, synthesizing diverse musical elements to craft a personal and emotionally resonant experience that is both retro and futurist in nature. Maus is also an accomplished academic, infusing his music with his background in political philosophy and making each song a reflection of his broad perspective on life and art.
Maus’ albums, including the critically acclaimed breakthrough We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves (2011), are celebrated for their blend of maniacal energy, introspective lyricism, and experimental pop sounds. Considered one of the key artists of modern outsider pop alongside his long-time companion Ariel Pink, Maus’ work resonates with an apocalyptic yet redemptive quality, creating an immersive and thought-provoking listening experience.
His live performances are a notoriously intense, heart-racing experience, dominated by his passionate delivery and electrifying stage presence. Having brought his memorably eccentric persona to major festivals and venues around the world, this key figure of contemporary avantgarde pop art, as hailed by Radio Študent, is finally coming to Ljubljana.
Neon Lies is a solo synth project by Goran Lautar, formed in 2015 after his involvement in Zagreb’s DIY punk/post-punk scene. His live performances are intense and emotional, combining a vintage tape recorder setup with haunting vocals. The project has released several albums, praised for their immersive and melancholic sound. This year’s Demons continues Neon Lies’ delightfully dark, detailed musical journey, with intricate compositions that captivate and intrigue.
