The Oholo! septet, composed of seasoned figures of the Slovenian improv scene, presents the new album Šiba, an exciting mix of composed rock, jazz and improvisation, driven by a pair of bouncing double basses.

FOR FANS OF: Jazz Cerkno, Olfamoštvo, Charles Mingus …

The seven-member collective Oholo! consists of some of the most prominent and free-thinking musicians of the local improv jazz scene – Tomaž Grom, the Drašler brothers, Andrej Fon and others. Pulling all sorts of tricks out of their bags, the musicians combine different forms of jazz and African music like it was all just a walk in the park, transforming them into an abstract expression of improvised music with bucketfuls of rhythm and groove. The band won the approval of local critics and listeners with their debut album Mnogobolje, released on the Sploh label, in which Odzven praised the breadth, depth and originality of the music presented, while Radio Študent highlighted its big band potential.

In the course of their barely ten years of existence, Oholo! have performed at almost all local venues and festivals that are open to their brand of music. Their performance at this year’s MENT festival spread the word, as a wide and diverse range of foreign media ranked them among the highlights of the festival. Among other things, Louder Than War described them as “wonderful local freaks”, while Under the Radar called them “hyperactive children in aural form.” This time around, they’ll present their new album Šiba, an exciting blend of composed rock, jazz and improvisation.
