Legendary bassist Tom Kennedy and drummer Dave Weckl are coming to Ljubljana for the first time with their Project. They bring extremely energetic communication and stage presence, adding engaged, improvised passages in which the quartet weaves together different musical genres, from funk, jazz, rock, and soul to the music of Latin America.

Dave Weckl was last in Ljubljana in 2009, at the opening concert series of Kino Šiška, in Mike Stern’s band. Fifteen years later, he is returning to Kino Šiška with his friend and long-time collaborator, one of the most creative bassists on the scene, Tom Kennedy. Having worked together since their early teens, their creative energy and chemistry have been intertwined in the studio and on tour for more than fifty years, bringing excellence to many bands that have made a mark on the history of music worldwide.
Tom Kennedy released the album New Start this year, and about the new compositions he will present on this year’s European tour, including at Kino Šiška, he says: “Legendary pianist Keith Jarrett once said about his recorded music, ‘if there were words that could describe it, there would be no need for its existence.’ These compositions did not come to me as a whole, but as pieces of melody, harmony, or rhythm that I could build from, much like in live improvisation. A single note or chord can inspire the path to a new section or passage of a song, and sometimes it can spark a fully orchestrated idea. No method, no foresight… just music.” The tradition of performances by masters of the electric bass guitar, such as Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, and Felix Pastorius, on Slovenian stages in recent years continues in October at Kino Šiška!
