The creative collaboration between singer-songwriter PJ Harvey and renowned photojournalist Seamus Murphy on the album Let England Shake is a project that must be experienced as a complete work of art.
Murphy, a war photographer, brought the war-themed music and lyrics to life through short films for all twelve powerful and distinctive songs on Harvey’s prophetic album from 2011. For the first time in Slovenia, the video album will be shown in its entirety on the big screen. Drawing inspiration from PJ Harvey, a special musical ensemble featuring Marina Martensson, Niko Novak, Jan Kmet, Kristian Majcen, and Aleš Mačkovšek will also perform on this occasion.

The creative collaboration between singer-songwriter PJ Harvey and renowned photojournalist Seamus Murphy for the album Let England Shake is a work that must be understood as a whole. Murphy’s twelve short films visualise an equal number of haunting songs from this iconic album, telling ever-relevant stories of the 20th and 21st centuries, exploring “dark places” marked by the remnants of a crumbling empire. In the smouldering light, Murphy’s static and moving camera captures the beauty of the landscape and the tense vitality of diverse subjects, creating intimate portraits of many faces that bear witness to this “land built on blood and battles.” With every frame, he maintains rhythm and embellishes the resonant tones, hues, and beats of PJ Harvey’s songs through visual compositions that convey both pain and moments of healing transcendence.
