Druga godba & Kino Šiška paved the way for Juana Aguirre on the European stages in 2022 and it is a pleasure to present her again, this time on her journey that will start at the La Linea Latin Music Festival in London and end at the prestigious Primavera in Barcelona. All the more so as she is going to present her new album, which is the perfect follow-up to her wonderful 2021 release Claroscuro.
FOR FANS OF: Juana Molina, Perotá Chingó, La Chica
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Argentine music is the stereotypical tango, but then you quickly think of Mercedes Sosa, Chang Spasiuk, Juana Molina and the duo Perotá Chingó, and you realise that this vast country has plenty of magical music to offer. Juana Aguirre continues to cultivate it as the leader of Churupaca, the band she founded in 2009 and with which she has travelled all over South America, and in recent years even more so with her solo work, in which she combines folk, indie, electronica and Argentine traditions.
Her marvellous voice, accompanied by guitar and electronic sounds, exudes deep sincerity and poetic storytelling, translating intimate stories into powerful musical expression. Juana Aguirre sings about living in ambiguity, knowing one’s own shadows and relying on the alchemical power of music, which can always transform pain into light.
Line-up: Juana Aguirre – vocals, guitar; Ignacio Cruz – synthesizer, guitar
Organisation: Kino Šiška in collaboration with Zavod Druga godba
