One of the most important contemporary Slovenian bands, Ana Pupedan, has been enthralling both domestic and foreign audiences with its boundless, independent rock for three decades. In 2022, they’re celebrating their anniversary with a brand new album, Naši v kantini, which they’ll play for us in Šiška in December.
Over the course of three decades, Ana Pupedan, still in their original line-up, established themselves as one of the most pervasive Slovenian groups with lucid, engaged and locally seasoned lyrics and an idiosyncratic, 1990s alternative-infused musical style encompassing a wide range of influences, from funk and reggae to folk and rap. They’ve performed well over a thousand concerts, not only throughout Slovenia, but also in Europe and the USA. They also opened this year’s season of Kino Šiška’s cooperation with Hangar Teatri in Trieste in October.
During their career, Ana Pupedan released five studio albums and two recorded live – one of the latter, Besne pesmi, in collaboration with the legendary singer-songwriter Jani Kovačič. The band’s fifth and most recent studio album, Naši v kantini, was released this year, and was recorded under the watchful eye of Jadran Ogrin, the bassist of many pioneering bands such as Kameleoni and September. After its grand debut in Trieste, we’ll get to enjoy it live again in December in Šiška.
