After an excellent performance in 2015, acclaimed British trip hop phenomenon Archive, extremely popular in Europe for almost thirty years, are returning to Šiška. This time they will present their brand-new double album Call To Arms & Angels. Supporting Archive, beloved post-rock act JoyCut will treat us to material from last year’s album TheBluWave.
The event has been postponed to 4 November 2023.
Already purchased tickets are valid for the new date, refunds are possible as well.
Over a nearly three-decade-long career, Londoners Archive have become known not only for their catchy, 1990s trip-hop-based songs such as “Bullets” and “Again”, but also for constantly developing and questioning their own sound. The inquisitive band with a fluid lineup has always been bolder than many a contemporary, introducing elements of post rock, classical music, electronica and more into their music, and their loyalty to themselves has paid off with the loyalty of fans. Archive thus enjoy immense popularity not only in the UK, but throughout Europe as well, with sold-out concerts and high-profile festival performances across the continent.
Just like in 2015, when they thrilled us in our Katedrala Hall as part of the tour supporting then-new album Restriction, they will treat us to a brand new album upon their return in 2022. The upcoming double album is their first in six years, and it was written in the turbulent times of the last few years. “Writing our twelfth studio album was an extraordinary time for the band. The song writing became an unfolding narrative as the world got stranger and more disturbing every day. With people’s freedoms being pushed to the brink, the suffering Covid caused and the terrible events in the US led by Trump and the rise of the Right, anything seemed possible,” explained founding member Darius Keeler. The band made a documentary about the creation of the album, Super8, and through the creative process and the new music they managed to find the light at the end of the tunnel. It will shine in Šiška in November.
With its electronic vision of post-rock, the Italian band JoyCut is a regular guest not only of our area, but also of famous venues and festivals all over the world, such as SXSW, Robert Smith’s Meltdown and the Venice Biennale. Among others, they shared the stage with Arcade Fire, Editors, Art Brut and Modest Mouse. Upon their return visit to Šiška, they’ll present material from last year’s album TheBluWave, which addresses themes of longevity, environmentalism, fragility and transience through texturally rich compositions.
