The ARTish art market is beginning this year’s season in Kino Šiška’s lower and upper lobbies.
On the last Saturday in March, Kino Šiška will host quality Slovenian and foreign designers of unique clothes, fashion accessories and jewellery, as well as photographers, painters, ceramists and other artists whose unique artwork tells their life stories and who stay true to their creative hearts.
The colourful ARTish living room will again feature knitting, crocheting, needlework, drawing and woodcarving. Female asylum seekers from the Vič and Logatec asylum centres and the NO-BORDER CRAFT association of asylum seekers in Ljubljana, as well as the members of Slovenian Sighthound World, will also participate.
NO-BORDER CRAFT is a self-organised group for the inclusion of female migrants, striving to build a social network between the local inhabitants and the migrants, strengthen their skills and empower their knowledge, experience and courage. They meet in and out of asylum centres, at social, educational, creative, political and sports events. They often sit at the big table in the Rog Social Centre, and it was at one such gathering that they started crocheting with the help of the members of KvaKvačkaš: baskets, purses, glass and bottle cozies, rugs, bracelets. While sipping tea and discussing their troubles, obstacles, wishes and needs, trading experience and learning new words, many an item was made. As they’re exploring alternative economy possibilities and the affirmation of migrants’ skills, they would like to offer these items for sale.
At the ARTish event in Kino Šiška, an Iranian asylum seeker will demonstrate and teach a technique for making knitted bracelets and bookmarks.
We dare announce another fantastic ARTish Saturday at Kino Šiška, happy faces, a tonne of creativity and positive energy. We’ll be happy to see you show support for the many artists trying to make a living with their own work. Come for great coffee, a chat with the exceptional artists, unique artwork or just a stroll among the colourful stands that will certainly brighten your day.

About ARTish
ARTish first opened its doors in December 2011, with a four-day festival in the abandoned Ajdovščina underpass in Ljubljana. In two years and a half, ARTish has managed to present more than 600 Slovenian and foreign artists at various locations (Kino Šiška, the ZRC Atrium, Gornji trg Square, Poligon), as well as establish a strong platform that supports numerous artists, spreading the word of Slovenian creativity abroad as well. In this way, ARTish aims to bring together artists from faraway lands and present their products in Slovenia, while presenting Slovenian artwork in other countries.
Organisation: ARTish and Kino Šiška.
