The exhibition “cherries” comes from the author’s collection of screenshots, which he compiled over the past year. The screenshots act as references, substantive and visual building blocks of the displayed creative project.
By incorporating, collecting and appropriating, and assembling them in provocative and visually stunning ways, the author explores the juxtaposition of different images. The screenshots and their translations in the exhibited works are arranged in such a way that they create contrasts or connections with each other. We can combine, collage and assemble them, juxtapose them on purpose, or do it without any special anticipation of the message. The completed wholes reflect similarities and resonate with each other.
The images of ordinary moments are complemented by the intersections with the unusual, which elevates their everydayness and places it in the foreground. The displayed works contain elements that are provocative, unconventional or even suggestive, partly homoiconic.
The moment when the Stepford wife (Bree Van de Kamp), usually portrayed as conformist and submissive, grabs a gun and becomes an icon, charts a transformation or subversion of societal expectations and illustrates the idea or essence of change. The works on display, derived from screenshots of a wide variety of content, have in common a certain degree of superficiality, which is sensibly complemented by the choice of screen printing technique.
Cherries as visual elements are the best, sweetest, and most noticeable visuals, without a cake, anchored at the top of the author’s pop-cultural memory.
Valentin Radulović (2000)
is an undergraduate student of painting, majoring in graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. He works at the intersection of classical graphics, drawing and painting with the internet, which is his main source of later appropriated images and the construction of his own visual language through it.
He has participated in group exhibitions, including the student exhibition Sodob®a Grafika in the Bank of Slovenia Gallery (2023), and a year earlier in the group exhibition Cabinet of Wonders (2022). His work is featured as part of the commercial exhibition Fresh Fish #newcatch.
