The curious post-punk band balans, one of the most prominent acts of the Slovenian underground, will perform live on our stream with their fresh new album. Turn on your devices and dive into their playful lo-fi intimacy!
The band balans, established in 2013 as a duo by charismatic vocalist Kristin Čona, “reminiscent of Nico or Grace Slick“ and humorous bassist Andrej Pervanja, “a sort of Esad Babačić of the new generation”, has not just put out an impressively large discography during its career, but has grown into quite the impressive and intriguing beast. Despite minimalism in both lineup and expression, the band tirelessly explores and balances (heh) various musical elements, from noise pop, krautrock, post-punk, psychedelia and so on, all suffused in the witty self-awareness of the absurdity of, well, everything. Seems about right for this day and age.
Their career growth has matched their musical one. The band, which holds the titles of former Club Marathon runners and 2020 INEStalent, toured as much as possible in these pandemic times – first IRL at festivals such as MENT and Waves Vienna, then on stream for Kino Šiška, MonkeyWeek and Liverpool Sound City, among others. In November 2020, they released their probably most sophisticated album so far, their first on KAPA Records. Enhanced with visuals by contemporary artist Alessandro Di Giampietro, it’s the one we’ll focus on live from Šiška as well.
