What are the contemporary alternatives to music that, according to Mark Fisher, follow the principle of pastiche – the repetition of history without a subjective attitude toward its phenomena? Muanis Sinanović, Jaša Bužinel and Robert Bobnič will address the issue in a series of short lectures. In the musical part of the program, Drone Emoji will tackle it “based on the motifs of Mark Fisher”.
In his second book, Ghosts of My Life, Mark Fisher spoke of “hauntology,” of a persecuted empty present that merely nostalgically mimics historical phenomena without a proper attitude toward them; it imitates them even without irony. Yet Fisher finds rare exceptions that create art out of this emptiness. He finds them in pop culture, with his thoughts on music standing out the most. About Burial and the melancholy of his electronic music, about Caretaker and his sonic depiction of amnesia, and so on. But Fisher works somewhat subjectively in his selection, so a series of shorter lectures by Muanis Sinanović, Jaša Bužinel and Robert Bobnič will try to find the zeitgeist and traces of alternatives in contemporary music in a similar way. The event will be followed by a DJ set by Drone Emoji “based on the motifs of Mark Fisher”.
