Buč Kesidi, the dance-oriented indie rock ‘n’ roll duo who are considered to be one of the key names in modern Serbian rock, are coming back! The band’s second album was nominated for the prestigious European IMPALA award, and the fellas will return to Ljubljana while preparing material for their third album, which is slated for release towards the end of the year.
Guitarist Luka Racić and drummer Zoran Zarubica founded Buč Kesidi in Pančevo in 2014 with the aim of shaking up the local music scene with modern rock ‘n’ roll sounds. With their debut album Posesivno-Olpulsivni Hospul, which included the hits “Kafe aparat” and “Draga?”, the musiciansfirst drew attention to themselves, then broke through to a wider audience with subsequent singles that announced their second album.
Catchy hits such as “Nema ljubavi u klubu”, “Đuskanje ne pomaže” and “TIHO” showcased Buč Kesidi’s shift towards a more contemporary, electronic sound with propulsive disco influences, and to date have accumulated several million streams online. The album Euforija, released in 2019, on which they are featured, established the band as one of the protagonists of the new Serbian alternative scene. In addition to critical acclaim, sold-out concerts across the region and performances at renowned international festivals such as Eurosonic Noorderslag, the record also earned the duo a nomination for the prestigious IMPALA Award for European Independent Album of the Year.
A few months after the release of their second album, Buč Kesidi first performed on Slovenian soil at the MENT Ljubljana festival. Soon after, due to coronavirus restrictions, they were forced into a live hiatus until last year, when they returned in style with a performance for a 10,000-strong crowd on the main stage of the Exit festival. Since then, they have tirelessly continued touring, as well as creating material for their third album, which is expected to be released at the end of 2022.
We’ll warm up with the playful indie/post-punk band Lelee, a project with veteran musicians Jelena Rusjan (Borghesia, TRUS!) on vocals and bass, Damjan Manevski (Rush to Relax, Molokai) on vocals and guitar, Jan Kmet (Balans, Kalu) on drums and Blaž Gracar on synthesizers. With their debut album Čuka bije pumpa (Moonlee Records, Ill in the Head Records, 2021), the MENT festival alumni take you on a summery roadtrip with punchy female-male vocal interplay, rugged indie rock in the style of Dinosaur Jr. and The Pixies, breezy jangle pop and Yugoslav new wave. Thanks to its multicultural background, the album is regarded as one of the most refreshing releases of last year not just in Slovenia, but all over the region.
