It’s time for the final edition of visual treats within the By the Way series, a street exhibition project combining the creative strengths of Kino Šiška and TAM-TAM. The Street Gallery at Vegova will be taken over by the piercing young protagonists of the urban art scene in Ljubljana – the UAUU collective of artists, artisans, and creative and resourceful types.
The story of UAUU (Universal Atelier of Street Arts) began in 2014, when a group of friends decided to launch the lifelong UAUU project. In the beginning, the space was instinctively divided into two parts, a studio and a gallery, and it retains this division to this day. The group surrounded itself with art, which has now become a lifestyle.
The artists’ collective works in the studio’s self-sufficient environment without rules or limitations, with an emphasis on artistic projects and creative solutions. They tackle anything that comes along – prints, illustrations, photographs, design, architecture, scenography, textile art, street art. Anything goes. As they never know what’s waiting around the corner, they have a hard time defining themselves – they just come to be organically. By the way, that’s how they’ll also face the Street Gallery. Pots and pots of coffee, brainstorming ideas, a “work builds character” philosophy, and an openness towards new things always result in something interesting.
From 2014 to 2016, the UAUU Gallery provided space, organised, curated, promoted and offered technical support to over 30 exhibitions and events. In 2015 and 2016, the exhibition space featured both young, non-established artists and established younger and middle-aged authors. The gallery also hosted several foreign artists who worked in Ljubljana during that period. In addition to exhibitions, UAUU also organised various workshops, architectural and artistic drawing classes, film screenings and social evenings.
Organisation: TAM-TAM and Kino Šiška.
