Attention, Carpenter Brut, the French master of meaty riffs, white-hot synths and nostalgic night-time adventures, is coming to Šiška! On his first visit to Slovenia, one of the most popular acts of modern synthwave will present his new album Leather Terror with a stunning visual show.
With millions of streams and sold-out concerts around the world, Franck Hueso aka Carpenter Brut is one of the most prominent names in synthwave, a relatively new genre that draws from the futuristic sounds of 1980s films and gained wider recognition through visual works such as the film Drive and the Stranger Things series. Among contemporaries such as Perturbator and GosT, Carpenter Brut is distinguished by his massive sound, devotion to electronics and an exceptional feeling for telling horror stories. As befits music founded in the works of John Carpenter, Vangelis, Dario Argent, etc., he does not neglect the visual aspect either. His videos are considered psychedelic masterpieces, and this is also reflected in his spectacular live show.
At his first performance in Slovenia, Carpenter Brut will also present his new album Leather Terror, which continues the sinister story of the title character of the successful album Leather Teeth. Although entirely made with synths, the new record reflects Brut’s love of old-school thrash metal, with more emphasis on vocals and guest performances from members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Tribulation and Ulver. Combined with a new show, we can look forward to an exceptional performance that will overwhelm our senses and inscribe itself in our databanks in glowing neon letters.
Brut will be preceded by his compatriot Sierra, who blends violence and melancholy, sweetness and brutality, to create a unique mixture of synthwave, EBM and darkwave. Like Perturbator and Carpenter Brut, she came up through the Stunfest gaming convention, and she’s warmed up for artists such as Magic Sword and Carbon Killer. In January this year, she released her excellent fifth EP See Me Now.
After their May gig ahead of Igorrr, local duo Neuromancer will once again take over as support. Named after William Gibson’s famous science fiction novel, the band wears its main sources of inspiration on its sleeve. With their dark, driving 1980s synthwave, they’ve been a staple of the Slovenian music scene for many years and represent the perfect complement to an evening of neon flashes, space cruises and digital adventures.
