Marie Spaemann and Christian Bakanic don’t need much on stage. They can conjure up a complete musical experience with just a cello, expressive vocals and a multifaceted accordion.
Cellist and vocalist Marie Spaemann and accordionist Christian Bakanic masterfully wield their instruments. They gracefully traverse various musical genres, incorporating diverse traditional musical influences into their compositions. Their music presents clear melodies, catchy rhythms, soul and pop elements, and classical modernism, as well as dashes of folk, jazz, and tango nuevo.
As a classically trained solo cellist, Marie Spaemann has performed with numerous orchestras around the world. In recent years, she has increasingly dedicated herself to her unique form of ‘singer-songwriting,’ where she performs original songs, accompanying herself on a vibrant and rhythmic cello. It is this distinctive approach that has elevated her to one of the most captivating European musicians of recent years. She evolves her artistic expression in the Metamorphosis project alongside the excellent accordionist and composer Christian Bakanic.
