Cory Henry, an exceptional keyboardist and one of the core members of the currently hottest jazz funk ensemble Snarky Puppy, with which he has received three Grammys, one of the best Hammond organ players of his generation, and a multitalented master musician who has collaborated with Aretha Franklin, Kenny Garrett, Bruce Springsteen and The Roots, is coming to Slovenia for the first time, accompanied by his Funk Apostles!
Brooklyn native Cory Henry first started playing the Hammond when he was just two years old. The extraordinarily talented musician became a fixture in jazz legend Kenny Garrett‘s touring band when he was 19, and his path eventually led him to the star-studded jazz ensemble Snarky Puppy, whose polished fusion of jazz, gospel and R&B was awarded with three Grammys (in 2014 for Best R&B Performance, and in 2016 and 2017 for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album).
Henry, a prolific producer in addition to his work with Snarky Puppy and solo career, has also collaborated with an assortment of stars, including Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, The Roots, Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin, P. Diddy, Boyz II Men and NAS. Meanwhile, with the help of YouTube and other social media, his charismatic nature and musical wizardry have garnered him a rabid fan base all over the world.
In Šiška in October, he’ll introduce us to his latest passion, the Cory Henry and The Funk Apostles project. Cory’s apostles are guitarist Andrew Bailie, drummer Taron Lockett, keyboardist Nick Semrad and bassist Sharay Reed – a hand-picked band of excellent and experienced musicians, who, under his guidance, serve up a fresh cocktail of sharp funk, contemporary jazz, classic gospel, soul and R&B, spiced up with Henry’s vocals – or, in his own words: “We are on our way. Tell Everybody. How many bodies? EVERYBODY!”
Organisation: Kino Šiška.
