After a ten-year hiatus, cult post punk ensemble Crime & the City Solution are returning to Europe! Under the leadership of founding member Simon Bonney, the sixth incarnation of the famed Mute Records protégés will finally play Šiška.
Simon Bonney founded Crime & the City Solution as a teenager and left a great impression on the burgeoning Melbourne post punk scene in the late seventies and early eighties. In later decades, the band’s membership and headquarters changed frequently – under Bonney’s leadership, four subsequent incarnations of the band based in the UK, Germany and the US included a number of prominent musical names such as Mick Harvey (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), Chrislo Haas (DAF), Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten, hackedepicciotto), Jim White (Dirty Three), David Eugene Edwards (Woven Hand) and more. The sound of individual lineups also varied according to the changes, but always adhered to masterfully composed slow, dark songs with Bonney’s recognizable Bonney vocals.
Bonney is embarking on the current tour with a new, sixth incarnation of the band. Crime & the City Solution VI includes his wife Bronwyn Adams on violin, backing vocals and loops, highly acclaimed drummer Chris Hughes, synth and guitar maestro Georgio Valentino, bassist Baron Anastis and Bonney’s long-time collaborator, guitarist and pianist Donald Baldie. Only they know what they have in store for us, but a band that has been garnering praise with breath-taking performances for more than forty years is definitely not to be missed.
