As Daisy the Great, Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker make folk-inflected indie rock that spans a multitude of moods – capable of being clever, devastating, or both simultaneously, spanning harmony-laden folk pop to powerhouse indie rock balladry – and has attracted quite the following as a result. The pair first met in college, co-writing a musical about a fictional band before realizing they could make it happen in real life. Eventually, they grew into a six-piece rock outfit and exploded on TikTok with “The Record Player Song”, a playfully infectious tune that has racked up tens of millions of streams since its release in 2017.
In 2022, Daisy the Great put out their sophomore album All You Need Is Time, following a full summer of shows and festivals, including Lollapalooza. According to the band, the new record ”captures the dichotomy of feeling time slipping through your fingers while you’re waiting for your life to start.” It’s a freeing thoughtfulness that defines Daisy the Great’s music, as well as their creative mission, and it has resonated with listeners and reviewers alike. They’ll be bringing their rich vocal harmonies, introspective musings, and tender yet catchy choruses to Šiška in August.
Indie rock sensation Liza Anne discovered her passion for songwriting as a young girl at summer camp, combining melodies with her poetry and prose, and later self-releasing two successful albums. In 2018, she released Fine But Dying, a groundbreaking album that explored themes of womanhood and mental health, and got her gigs opening for Kacey Musgraves, performing on Conan, and sold out shows all over the US and Europe. She followed up the release with Bad Vacation, a critically acclaimed album that showcased her confidence and drew comparisons to artists like St. Vincent, Kate Bush, and Talking Heads. Following the pandemic, she moved from Nashville to New York, finding her truest self and beginning to work on music that spotlights queer culture.
