From idea to comics strip with Croatian master Darko Macan.
Darko Macan alias Cecile Quintal, Croatian writer, essayist, editor, critic, scriptwriter and illustrator, an excellent expert on comics in both theory and practice, will present the basics of comics scriptwriting at a lecture at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova on Friday, 12th October. He will speak about how to start work on a script, how to go from idea to storyboard, what are the most important elements of a script, what a real comics script looks like, and what are the common beginners’ mistakes. The veteran artist will thus tell us everything about comics scriptwriting and more.
The workshop at Kino Šiška a day later will put theory into practice, as its goal is to prepare a great comics script. Please bring your own or others’ literary proposals. The final scripts will be offered to Slovenian comics artists for realisation, with the authors’ permission. The workshop is intended for comics writers, artists and scriptwriters of all ages.
Darko Macan (1966, Zagreb) is a world-famous scriptwriter, the author of the comics Borovnica, La Bête Noire, Marshall Bass and Mi, mrtvi. During his highly prolific career, he has also written scripts for Tarzan, Star Wars and Grendel Tales, which got him two nominations for the Eisner Award.
The lecture will be held in English and the workshop in Slovenian, Croatian and English. Apply at: core@mail.ljudmila.org.
Organisation: Stripburger/Forum Ljubljana and Kino Šiška in cooperation with the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova.
