In cooperation with this year’s Ljubljana Short Film Festival (FeKK), we are hosting a free two-day animation workshop aimed at people over 18 years of age.
The workshop will be led by Lea Vučko and Damir Grbanović, the authors of the excellent animation The Legend of Goldhorn. In its first year of distribution, the film was featured in more than 70 established international film festivals in 34 countries and received 11 awards – among them the Vesna Award for Best Animated Film in 2022 and the Critics’ Choice Award at FekSLO 2023.
At the workshop, we will first watch the animated film The Legend of Goldhorn and learn about the basics of animation and the technical and substantive aspects of this creative process.
We will continue with practical work, where the participants will bring to life the posters of past editions of FeKK through animation. They will add their own drawings to the printed copies of movie posters, thereby creating animated elements that will bring the poster to life frame by frame.
With the workshop, we want to encourage fans of animated films to try their hand at the creative process under the guidance of experienced mentors. At the same time, we want to preserve and expand interest in animation and enable creative expression regardless of previous experience and skills.
Lea Vučko, an illustrator by training and an animator by profession, worked as an animator on the films Prince Ki-ki-do and Weasel, Špela Čadež’ series recap for Orange Is the New Black on Netflix, and the contemporary puppet show Somewhere Else. She co-created two location-specific projects that were selected for the Animation Goes MSU programme of the Animafest Zagreb festival (Petris, Spring Cleaning), and co-founded the production studio OCTOPICS. The Legend of Goldenhorn is her debut film.
Damir Grbanović graduated in 3D modeling and animation at the Multimedia Institute and Academy. He continued his studies in animated film at the Academy of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica. During that time, he spent an exchange year studying animated film at ESAD – Escola Superior de Arte in Portugal. He graduated in 2014. His student animated films were featured at international festivals, and he was already creating independent animated films during his studies. As a director, co-director and animator or co-animator, he created three films that were shown at the global animation film festival Animafest Zagreb in the Animation Goes MSU section. He is the co-founder of the production studio OCTOPICS.
