“Desolation Center” is the untold story of the early 1980s music and art performance happenings in the California desert that inspired Burning Man, Lollapalooza and Coachella, collective experiences that have become key elements of popular culture in the 21st century.
Directed by the creator and principal organizer of these one-of-a-kind events, “Desolation Center” splices interviews and rare performance footage brings to life a time when pushing the boundaries of music, art, and performance felt almost like an unspoken obligation. The 90-minute doc features interviews with the likes of Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction/Lollapalooza), Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Mike Watt (Minutemen/Stooges), Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten) and Curt Kirkwood (Meat Puppets).
