The group exhibition Different Worlds 2017 showcases works of ten young and emerging photographers from the CEE region who have been selected through an open call organised by Photon. The show displays recent works and thus provides an insight into the latest tendencies of contemporary photography in the region.
The exhibition is part of the Young Contemporary Photography initiative that encourages, evaluates and promotes the developments of young, non-yet-established, and emerging generations of artists and photographers, up to 35 years of age. In its fifth edition the contest, entitled Different Worlds, explores themes of diversity, responsiveness and critical thought. The Different Worlds exhibition did not come with a prescribed theme. This was clearly reflected in the diversity of the received works, in their original expressions as well as in the various photographic practices and techniques that were applied.
The exhibition is divided between two adjacent venues; Photon – Centre for Contemporary Photography and Kino Šiška. At Photon works of three award-winning artists are displayed while in Kamera / Kino Šiška works of remaining seven shortlisted photographers are exhibited. The artists have been selected by international jury: Michaela Bosakova (Photon – Centre for Contemporary Photography, Vienna), Branko Lenart (a photographer and a former professor at College of Art and Design and University of Applied Sciences Joanneum, Graz), Jean-Luc Soret (curator, Maison de la Photographie, Paris) and Anja Zver (Kino Šiška Center for Urban Culture, Ljubljana).
