The official opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 8 pm at Kino Šiška, Kamera Gallery.
The group exhibition of the 11th edition of the Photon International Competition presents the works of the ten selected finalists at two locations simultaneously, at Photon Gallery and at Kino Šiška. The competition is aimed at young artists (up to 35 years of age) in the field of contemporary auteur photography from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The opening of the exhibition Different Worlds coincides with the 20th anniversary of the founding of Photon Gallery and is a part of the wider celebration commemorating this occasion.
Through the competition, Photon promotes auteur photography that demonstrates originality and innovation both in its formal approach and in its choice of themes and concepts. The competition has no set theme, but the final selection often includes works that fall within a wide range of photographic and photography-related practices. In the group exhibition, we present the latest production in contemporary photography from this part of Europe.
The artists and works were selected by an international jury consisting of Vladimir Birgus, a renowned Czech photographer, curator, historian of photography, professor, and head of the Institute of Creative Photography at the Silesian University in Opava, Thomas Licek, former director of Eyes On – Month of Photography in Vienna and co-founder of the publishing platform Reflektor, and Maša Žekš, a curator working with the DobraVaga exhibition and project space, commercial gallery and open studio, as well as with the Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture, which is co-producing the competition exhibition this year.
