FOR FANS OF: Arctic Monkeys, Shame, MRFY …
Fontaines D.C., an acclaimed Irish post-punk band formed in Dublin in 2014, has swiftly risen to prominence with their raw, poetic sound and thought-provoking lyrics. The band bonded over poetry and self-released singles before signing with Partisan Records (PJ Harvey, IDLES, Cigarettes After Sex …) in 2018. Their debut album Dogrel, released in April 2019, received critical acclaim, winning Album of the Year on Rough Trade’s website, BBC Radio 6 Music, and nominations for the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize.
Their follow-up, A Hero’s Death, written amidst a rigorous touring schedule, was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Meanwhile, the band’s dedication to touring and live performances, including an extensive fifty-city tour across Ireland, Europe, and North America in 2019, cemented their reputation as a formidable live act – a reputation they forged also while opening for the likes of the Arctic Monkeys.
Their third album, Skinty Fia, released in 2022, showcases their evolving sound, blending post-punk energy with more expansive and cinematic elements. This album achieved number one on both the Irish and UK Albums Charts, a first for the band, reflecting their growing influence and mastery in music. Fontaines D.C.’s steep rise from their poetic beginnings to international acclaim, marked by critical and commercial successes, makes their upcoming performance at Kino Šiška a much-anticipated event for music enthusiasts of all stripes.
