At the evening of refined duos, we’ll get to know the young Gazelle & the Bear, the next in a series of great Austrian bands that craft excellent pop at the intersection of jazz and hip-hop, and local duo LUMA, finalists of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest selection.
Through their passion for making music together, drummer Julian Berann and singer and pianist Ines Kolleritsch are discovering new musical paths. Well-known members of the budding Viennese music scene, who also play with artists such as Alice Phoebe Lou and Leyya, playfully combine the intimacy of the singer-songwriter’s expression with contemporary jazz, hip-hop and RnB. Last year, they packaged their “warm cloud of sound”, perfect for immersing oneself in, into their elegant debut album Weird Shaped Clouds, full of gentle interplay between complexity and simplicity.
Lucija Harum and Martin Vogrin released their first songs as LUMA last year, following them up with a performance at the EMA 2022 Slovenian Eurovision Song Contest selection. With their hypnotic song “All In”, they impressed both Slovenian and foreign listeners and finished fourth in the finals. They like to add a bit of mystique and darkness to their blend of different styles of pop and alternative music, reinforcing it with modern rhythmic patterns. Their feeling for catchy, memorable tracks certainly promises we’ll be happy to listen to them many more times.
