GIRL BAND (IRL) + Brutal Blues (NOR)

Modern noise rock in brutal techno dance rhythms! Finally, a new generation band has emerged that rocks – the almost forgotten, stifled amidst the pussy hipsters, blokeish type of band the likes of Jesus Lizard, Killdozer, Big Black… their own additions to the list of influences including The Birthday Party, Neu, James Chance, Ben Frost

Modern noise rock in brutal techno dance rhythms! Finally, a new generation band has emerged that rocks – the almost forgotten, stifled amidst the pussy hipsters, blokeish type of band the likes of Jesus Lizard, Killdozer, Big Black… their own additions to the list of influences including The Birthday Party, Neu, James Chance, Ben Frost plus a lot of noise and minimal techno.

The opening act to warm-up your eardrums will be Brutal Blues with the drummer Anders Hana, who is already familiar to our audiences from the infamous appearances of the Norwegian noise duo MoHa! Brutal Blues about themselves: “Are you ready for 100% authentic deluxe delta blues from Mississippi? Too bad, because Brutal Blues is a grind band from Norway.” Expect a nice Sunday evening for all true bitches!

GIRL BAND

Girl Band are a four piece noise rock band from Dublin, Ireland. They are made up of Dara Kiely, Alan Duggan, Daniel Fox and Adam Faulkner.

They formed in late 2011 with influences ranging from bands and acts such as Bad Brains, Swell Maps, James Chance and the Contortions, Neu, The Birthday Party, Ben Frost and a lot of minimal techno. Girl Band structure their songs with sparse, shouty vocals, over intense noise textures and soundscapes which develop around repetitive groves. The band have released an EP and 2 singles with Any Other City Records. Their live show is known for being loud, intense and energetic. The band is currently working on new material for their debut album.

PRESS

Clocking in at a fearsome six minutes, “Lawman” pits a martial drum stomp against brownnote frequencies that feel like intestinal blockage and hihat accents that sound like they’re being played on circular saws, all the while frontman Dara Kiely makes like a young, easily agitated Stephen Malkmus suffering an existential crisis in the midst of studying for his midterms as a deathdisco revival party rages in the dorm room next door (PITCHFORK)

The young Dublin quartet Girl Band plays noisy, cymbalcrashing postpunk that will click for fans of the genre’s huge revival of a decade ago — The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem, and especially early Liars — but feels utterly present and alive (STEREOGUM)

Cave’s old band, the Birthday Party, come to mind more than once tonight, but so do Daft Punk. Girl Band profess to be influenced by the French duo, and there’s just enough of a danceable bass undertow to justify their claim. Yet no one dances – this visceral, invigorating music is greeted with a dazed silence, one that suggests Girl Band are on the right track (THE GUARDIAN)

They have a new video out for their latest single, “Lawman,” which at over six minutes, shows off the band’s prowess in working with repetitive grooves (THE NEEDLE DROP)

Abrasive, unrestrained and exhilarating live, the Dubliners want to mess with your head (NME)

Lawman – 5 stars (THE IRISH TIMES)

Noise pop genius (DROWNED IN SOUND)

This is maniacal music, the kind that translates onto its listener and turns them into a more rabid individual. Watch out (THIS IS FAKE DIY)

Goddamn this is ace (THE QUIETUS)

BRUTAL BLUES

Are you ready for 100% authentic deluxe delta blues from Mississippi? Too bad, because Brutal Blues is a grind band from Norway. This duo consists of Steinar (PSUDOKU, Parlamentarisk Sodomi, BxSxRx) on guitar/vocals and Anders (Blodsprut, MoHa!, Noxagt, Ultralyd) on drums/vocals. This is modern and raw grind and those familiar with their past bands expect nothing less.

Breakneck drum fantasy. This is one of the best records that I’ve heard all year. Wow, just a slap in the face. I’m not worthy (BOSTONHASSLE)
