The young and talented R&B master, keyboardist and singer Hauptman is returning to Šiška to celebrate the release of his live album from the Izštekani unplugged radio show. He’ll present songs from his debut Finished, Not Perfect, and his second album Blizu with an expanded 10-piece band.
Žan Hauptman’s music combines elements of soul, jazz, and R&B, enveloped in pop tones, and enriched by the sound of a string quartet at the upcoming show.
In 2021, the musician released his well-received debut album Finished, Not Perfect, written with a band and recorded in English.
A year later, he presented himself in Slovenian for the first time. The song “Sledim” became the most-played track of the year on Radio Val 202. “The positive feedback encouraged me. I probably stuck with English because it was easier to start with. I was less critical of expressions that often sound too cheesy in Slovenian. I had to find my way of writing in Slovenian—how to turn and pronounce the words, how to phrase them so they wouldn’t sound too ‘Slovenian’, so that I’d like them and they’d make sense. In doing so, I also enriched my sound; now there’s much more of Žan in it,” he explains.
His second album Blizu was thus recorded completely in his native language, but that’s not the only difference compared to the debut. “I moved from a band sound to a more electronic one. The album was created with my very good friend, producer Erik Asatrian. It might seem like an unusual choice, but I like it, and I stand by it.”
An expanded band, reworked songs and hits from the album Finished, Not Perfect in a new, unplugged arrangement. It’s a concert not to be missed.
