Three solo performances + a concert intertwining three intriguing figures of the current Russian art diaspora, whom we have already admired at two editions of MENT Ljubljana in the bands Glintshake and Inturist.
FOR FANS OF: Shortparis, James Chance & The Contortions, MENT Ljubljana…
Inturist is an alter ego of Evgeny Shmukler (Gorbunov). He explores post-Soviet trauma and transfers memories of it into a contemporary context, as well as now the context of other countries. Inturist’s approach is based on improvisation. Stylistically, the project’s music is close to the Soviet underground (Soviet new wave, post-punk, free jazz, etc.), with a constantly changing lineup, from a solo act or duet to a four-piece. In addition to his musical work, Inturist is a theatrical project. His latest album is a radio play called “Stranger,” a full-fledged absurdist piece where voices and narrative are intertwined with abstract musical ornament.
Dima Midborn is the avant-rock project of a Tel-Aviv-based musician who takes a minimalist approach to music. He recorded his first album using only three instruments – a bass, voice, and a drum machine. His concerts are based equally on songs and improvisation, whether with a three-piece band or as a solo performance with a bass and a drum machine. The music draws inspiration from New York no-wave bands of the 1980s.
Sergei Khramtcevich performs on the baritone, alto, and soprano saxophones, participating in a large number of projects on the Russian avant-garde, jazz and modern academic scene: The OMY, Baritone Domination, The RIG (Russian Improve Group), Kymatic Ensemble, Inturist, GODSE, KOLOKOL by Philipp Gorbachev, and many others. He also explores soundscapes in the context of free improvisation.
