Rappers Mirko Grozny and Naji will present their music, with the evening tied together by N’toko.
In Slovenia, musicians Mirko Grozny and Naji, who come from different backgrounds, share a similar form of activism through making music: they work in squats, where they help develop independent platforms for artists, and resist urban gentrification, social exclusion and racism with their collectives.
Naji came to Slovenia from Iran, where he was persecuted by the authorities due to his lyrics. Here, he found a creative space in the Rog Factory in Ljubljana, where he writes about his new, difficult life in Europe. Meanwhile, Novo mesto resident Mirko is well-known among local audiences as a street poet whose music brings forgotten stories to light. His voice has been heard at protests ever since the Slovenian Popular Uprising. Today, he’s an active member of the Sokolski dom cultural centre, and a tireless supporter of solidarity campaigns all over the country.
The evening will be tied together by the musical selection of musician, columnist and activist N’toko, who shares a creative and political path with both artists.
Organisation: Mladinska knjiga and the Vodnik Homestead in cooperation with Kino Šiška.
