“Kresnik: The Lore of Fire” is a short teen film, directed by the young director David Sipoš and independently produced by Haritude Ventures during the summer of 2013. The 20-minute film is set in the Slovenian countryside during the 70’s and talks about three boys on holidays at their grandpa’s that decide to explore the nearby forest on the bonfire night. A mysterious experience of a fairyland full of fairies, elves, fire and slavic god Kresnik awaits the youngest among them as well as a test where he has to show his courage and take the first step towards maturity.
The main roles were cast by young talented actors Cene Skrt, Aljaž Šimunić and Domen Jančič with legendary Slovenian actor Dare Valič cast as their grandfather. Over 100 volunteers helped either in front or behind the camera in various ways during the 7 days of production.
The film is mainly aimed at teenagers since we believe that its content and visual storytelling serves as an interesting and important contribution to the cultural development of our youngest generation. It addresses them with themes of growing up, independence, friendship, self-confidence and courage. Through the genre of fantasy the story also deals with motives of Slavic mythology, through which the authors are reviving our almost forgotten historical heritage and draw attention to the highly unfulfilled potential of fantasy film in Slovenia.
On May 10th “Kresnik: The Lore of Fire” became the first Slovenian movie to appear on Kickstarter and also succeede, the largest crowdfunding platform that also became very popular in Slovenia in the past year – Slovenian authors and designers have raised almost 2 million Euros with the help of crowdfunding by now. The film’s authors raised enough funds to finish the post-production of the movie and to successfully promote it and organize its premiere. Kresnik: The Lore of Fire also became the first Slovenian project, which was mostly funded by Slovenians.
Organised by Haritude Ventures in cooperation with Kino Siska.
