One of the biggest names in contemporary indie rock and psychedelia, Kurt Vile, is finally coming to Šiška! Backed by his band, the acclaimed and adored artist will showcase his characteristically languorous sound through both familiar old and exciting new material, including his latest release (watch my moves).
Philadelphia-based psych-pop artist Kurt Vile has slyly referred to himself as “Philly’s Constant Hitmaker” since his earliest CD-Rs. Celebrated for his songwriting prowess, laid-back, psychedelic sound and introspective lyrics, Vile was one of the founding members of The War On Drugs before later heading off on his own. Following success with releases such as Smoke Ring for My Halo, one of the top albums of 2011, he went stratospheric with the 2013 release Wakin on a Pretty Daze and its hit song “Pretty Pimpin”. His success took him to major venues and festivals around the world and facilitated collaborations with artists such as Courtney Bartnett and Dinosaur Jr.
Vile’s latest album (watch my moves) demonstrates his talents as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. The album is a blend of vibrant and meditative music, with every lyric distilled into an aphorism and every bloom of distorted guitar or murmuring synth contributing to the “fried” pop sound. Tracks like the blissed-out “Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)” showcase his new breed of tune ability to crystallize moments with his lyrics, and the album features collaborations with musicians from different genres, including Cate Le Bon and James Stewart of Sun Ra Arkestra.
With Vile’s distinctive vocals and intricate guitar work, backed by the tight rhythms of The Violators, the artist’s live performances are known for their raw energy and improvisational spirit, ensuring an unforgettable July night.
We’ll begin the evening with the compelling husky voice of Belgian singer-songwriter Camille Camille, who’ll soothe our souls with her wistful bedroom folk. Delicately intertwining hope and melancholy, the promising young artist released her warmly received debut album Could You Lend Me Your Eyes in 2021 and is currently working on the follow-up. She has also toured with the likes of King Hannah and Widowspeak.
