What happens when there are no funds for an exhibition, yet you wish to create something important, something that will carry great weight?
This question was the principle for the exhibition curated by the Latvian comic magazine kuš! (www.komikss.lv). They invited illustrators and comic artists to create something big from almost nothing: they had to draw their interpretation of “the last match” on a piece of paper measuring around 0.00166m2.
The exhibition provides a witty comment to the “financial crisis” and the related search of survival strategies in producing art exhibitions. The project dates back to autumn 2009 when works of 150 artists from around the world were exhibited in Riga, from China, USA, South Africa to Brazil and Australia. This could be called the largest small exhibition. By the end of 2012, the travelling collection acquired additional authors, now comprising more than 300 works by renowned as well as less known authors from 51 countries. There are several Slovenian artists participating in the project, such as Andrej Štular, David Krančan, Domen Finžgar, Gašper Rus, Kaja Avberšek, Matej Stupica, Matej Lavrenčič, Mina Fina, Marko Kociper, Leon Zuodar, miha ha, Petra Preželj, Jakob Klemenčič, Izar Lunaček, Matej and Andreja Kocjan, Saša Kerkoš, and Lenka Đorojević.
The exhibition has been shown at several major comic festivals – in Saint Petersburg, Poznan, Linz, Lisbon, Prague, etc.
